One of the rarer varieties of quartz, citrine (SiO2), forms from recrystallized quartz solution where nearby oxidized iron impurities become included in the atomic structure. These impurities create the characteristic golden-yellow coloration of citrine. The finest quality of citrine is transparent lemmon or golden yellow. More commonly, crystals are golden brown to orange-brown with milky white areas. Most citrine these days is made by gently heating poor quality amethyst, turning it golden.This process can also occur naturaly in metamorphic environments.Whatever its origin, citrine quartz is invaluable as a healing stone. The range of colours allows it to work as a grounding stone (browns), as a balancer of the sacral chakra and as a support for the energies of the solar plexus chakra.
